The prime objective of the theme for this year “Tourism and Green Investments” has been to highlight the need for more and better-targeted investments for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

One of the major agendas of this year’s theme is to invest in education and skills in the tourism sector. This is also a basic feature of the New Education Policy 2020 to have skills in the education and curriculum. The tourism and hospitality sector is one of the leading industries for countries like India where thousands of skilled human resources are required for a steady economic growth. Considering the theme of “Tourism and Green Investments”, two eminent speakers who are involved in many important initiatives linking nature, ecology, culture, heritage and tourism were invited to speak at the event, namely Prof. Shiela Bora and Dr. Narayan Sarma.

As the Department of Archaeology has been offering a Skill Enhancement Course on Heritage Tourism for the last a few years, the students of various departments, especially Anthropology and Sanskrit which have opted for the course have also attended the program. The event ended with a screening of the National Award winning filmmaker Kripal Kalita's latest documentary film Hati Bondhu (Friends of Elephants).
